Use your computer to control your CB!

Imagine the possibilities that would open up if you could interface a computer with the channel control circuit (PLL
chip) and transmit control of a CB radio.
Memory capability, full use of any expanded frequency available in the radio, creative transmit control, not to
mention the educational value of seeing binary and decimal data conversions in real
time. Such a system would give
you the capabilities and features found only in much more expensive radios.
The system described here can be used with any standard PLL-controlled CB to achieve
all of those advanced features, and more. The best thing is that the actual electronics are amazingly simple, and
can be built by anyone with a bit of electronic project construction skill. I have personally used this system
with a Uniden PC 66, Uniden PC68, Cobra 148GTL, GE 5813B, Uniden Grant XL, Cobra 21XLR, and a Galaxy DX959. It
can be adapted to many, many more radios, as well!
This system will allow you to use your Windows-95 (or higher), parallel-printer-port-equipped
computer to control your CB. Includes the following:
- Interface software
- Application files
- Application help files
- All currently-available radio data files
- PLL data test utility
- Full instructions for creating your own data files
- Schematics for two different versions of the interface electronics
- 7407 IC version
- IC version comes with complete PCB layout for use with software
available from
www.expresspcb.com
- Discrete transistor version
- The schematics were created with "circad", available FREE from Holophase
Here are a few of the features offered by the software:
- Any converted CB will have split-frequency operation
- Any converted CB will have 10 memory combinations available:
- Each of the 10 combinations contains a RX-TX channel combo and a separate
RX-TX
frequency combo
- Any converted CB can be locked in transmit mode for testing purposes
- Program remembers all settings when exited properly
Further information and discussion is available on the original interface web-page, located at http://www.dtbradio.com/cbcomp.html.
PLEASE NOTE that you need a computer with a standard parallel printer port for this system to work. It is up to you to determine if your computer has such a port.
